Viewing Burma Through the Camera Lens

After years of suppression, the creative arts scene in Burma is now blossoming, revealing a wealth of talented and imaginative artists.

The artistic community of Burma has started to gain international attention with a string of artists enjoying a new level of creative freedom and expression after the country opened up to the world in 2011. Within the serene environs of Inle Lake, travelers can find numerous hidden artistic treasures and scenes of creative pleasure. Our one day program starts with a visit to Shwe Yan Pyae Monastery, a place famed for its unique oval windows. Young novices and monks sitting in the oval windows have become a photographic highlight for both tourists and professional photographers alike, giving rise to a series of iconic images.

Finding Inner Peace in Vietnam

Destination Asia Vietnam has created a Buddhist and Zen experience to provide insight into the practices of meditation while connecting travelers with practicing monks.

Guests are taken to the Sung Phuc Zen Monastery just outside of Hanoi where they connect with a peaceful ambience and practice Zen with a group of masters. Later in the morning we transfer to Phat Tich Pagoda at the foot of the Phat Tich Mountain. It is said that in the 11th century the huge Buddhist Tower at the pagoda collapsed to reveal the gold-gilt Buddha statue of A-Di-Da (the Future Buddha). From then on the village and pagoda got the name Phat Tich. The surroundings are profoundly serene and tranquil. Amid the leafy gardens it is possible to find a corner and become shrouded in a Zen-like atmosphere.
