Africa Albida Tourism & Zimbabwe Celebrate!
Our partners at Africa Albida Tourism had reason to celebrate recently at the AZTA Industry Awards (Association of Zimbabwe Travel Agents). They were honored with four prestigious awards including ‘Best Resort Hotel’ for Victoria Falls Safari Lodge; ‘Best Boutique Hotel’ for Victoria Falls Safari Club; ‘Best Self Catering Lodge’ for Lokuthula Lodge; and the ‘Service to Industry’ award going to the incomparable Wendy Bourne.
The celebrations continued when the latest figures for the four AAT properties showed occupancy levels above 80% for the month of August–shattering records at VFSL since it’s opening in 1994. This is a strong indicator that tourism to Victoria Falls is thriving once more as properties are reporting high occupancies and strong forward bookings into 2015. Director of Travel & Tourism Association Southern Africa, Mr. Ross Kennedy, said there was an 11.7% increase over last year’s numbers and the boom in tourists had impacted across all sectors from 2 star to 5 star accommodation, and big hotels to exclusive boutique properties.
In addition to the positive trends in occupancies, there is the ongoing expansion of the Victoria Falls International Airport, expected to be complete in July 2015. Coupled together, these things make the tourism sector in Zimbabwe optimistic about the future…cause for celebration, indeed!
